If I had known...
Nov. 1st, 2009 06:44 pm... that I'd be facing down hordes of football supporters, I would have taken the next bus.
First I had to get out of the train station, which wasn't easy since the police had closed half of it. I feel for the frantic woman who was in a desperate hurry to get her train tickets out of the automats... that were on the other side of the cordon.
Then all the trams and buses outside were cancelled, and people milling about, wearing football team colours. That's when I realised the match had just ended and resigned to walking home.
A hundred meters on I had to slam myself into a wall and brace myself as a swarm of football supporters suddenly surged my way -- and after them a black-jacketed wall of triumphant football supporters, presumably from the winning team as they were chanting "SM guld SM guld SM gu-uuuuuld!" and made a shock towards the retreating, equally black-jacketed swarm. I was in two minds about going on: would they recognise me as an innocent bystander, and would they care?
Beyond them was the police cordon, and a few casualties that were later picked up by the ambulances that came sirening as I had passed the site. Phew! Adrenalin!
Now I'm home with a pizza, and I still don't know who won!
